Our Journey Towards Program Certification
SoFla DBT consortium was cofounded by Dr. Sara A. Hosn, Dr. Holly Bedotto, and Dr. Lydia Kalsner who each individually own a private practice in the three counties of South Florida (Miami Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach). The three practices decided to come together to provide excellence in the practice, training, and education of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. We deliver both comprehensive and informed DBT adherently and traditionally – the way it was meant to be practiced.
In 2018, the practices decided the time was right to certify our programs through the Linehan Board. When we initially became intensively trained through Behavior-Tech we achieved the highest level of training in order to form our programs. Since that time the DBT Linehan Board of certification began to certify programs in April 2017. The board’s mission is to educate and protect the public by distinguishing adherent clinicians and programs that are committed to the highest standard of practice. Our three practices are dedicated to Dr. Linehan’s model of delivering DBT to the highest fidelity and excellence. Because each of our practices has three or more clinicians, we decided that program certification was the most practical avenue to assuring that every part of the program was adherent to the highest level of standards in care. Dr. Hosn was the first on our team to venture into certification for individual clinicians. She pursued certification in 2015 and the team supported her journey towards certification which she completed in early 2017. Dr. Hosn has since led our team towards program certification for all three practices. Because Dr. Hosn was individually certified, we were able to choose the option of program certification.
The journey towards program certification was long and challenging, as most accomplishments tend to be. Nonetheless, the work brought our team members closer together and enhanced our delivery of DBT in ways that surpassed our expectations. We are a "community of therapists treating a community of patients" so it goes without saying that we could not have achieved this without our patients. We are grateful for their support and willingness to sit through countless hours of session recordings and interviews. We are mostly grateful for their willingness, openness, and support of our mission. Our community was brought together by our shared dedication towards raising the standard of care in the delivery of DBT. Our next mission is going to be increasing access to this gold standard treatment.
